How often do you say the words “I’m stressed”?
Stress can be seen as a “catch all” term that describes a state from mild irritability, to a severe condition that can cause a real breakdown in mental and physical health and wellbeing.
Most people can cope with a certain degree of stress, it is very much part of our modern day lives and so we seem to take a good deal of it in our stride in these days. However, long-term chronic stress affects all areas of a person’s life and is extremely difficult to live with – for both the sufferer and those close to them.
The early signs and symptoms of stress can vary from person to person and are not always easy to spot. The person suffering from stress may also hide these signs as they worry what people may think. Therefore, the people close to us might be the only ones who can spot something is not quite right.

The most important thing to bear in mind when thinking about hypnotherapy, and in particular, regression hypnotherapy, is that your past is always present – even if you don’t remember certain things that may have happened. Our memory is like a huge library that neatly files away and stores absolutely everything that we ever paid attention to, or anything that affected us in any way.
Since training in regression hypnotherapy I have been amazed and sometimes even astounded at the results. I have had numerous clients that have struggled with a particular problem for many years and although they tried many other forms of treatment the problem was never resolved. Different therapies do have their merits of course, but your subconscious mind is often the doorway to resolving many problems and regression hypnotherapy can provide the key.

We have a huge amount of thoughts running through our minds every day – between 40,000 and 60,000 would you believe! And when you consider that our thoughts directly affect our mood – this can explain why we can experience such a variety of different moods in a single day.
Of course, our thoughts can be just neutral ones (“what shall I have for dinner later?”)- but they also can be positive or negative. A lot of the time we don’t even notice them because they are completely automatic. They can “fly below the radar” of our conscious attention and even if we do notice them, we can totally accept them as fact without ever stopping to challenge them. This is because they are so familiar to us that they feel true. But as our thoughts can have a significant effect on our mood, it can be really helpful to learn how to question their validity at times – and this means to stop and ask ourselves “is this thought actually true?”

Are we really more stressed than we used to be?
In 1969, 36% of women reported being stressed, according to The Prospective Population Study of Women. Fast forward 40 yrs and that figure is now 75% – more than double the amount! But is life in the 21st century really so stressful, or has “stress” simply become an exaggerated phenomenon in recent times?
Surely, life is easier in so many ways these days – and our lives are the most comfortable and luxurious they have ever been. So why do so many people complain of being unhappy / depressed / stressed?
Do we just “perceive” that we’re more stressed these days because we’ve got so much more access to information? We’re hearing about and reading so much more about these concepts so it’s possible that we’re just more likely to pay attention to how we’re feeling than people used to. It’s true that we’re certainly more encouraged to talk about our feelings nowadays – as opposed to the “put up and shut up” culture of yesteryear. Have we just become more self-indulgent in modern times?
Let’s think about how things are now compared to the 60’s/ 70’s:
